Groundwater protection towards sustainable management of water supply for a northern BC indigenous community (Details of project)

ACTIVITIES PERFORMED:

Designed and and installation of two monitoring wells
Installed data loggers for measurement of water level and electrical conductivity
Conducted surface and groundwater quality sampling and analyzed water–rock interactions
Developed a 3D groundwater flow model and an Excel-based water balance model
Developed machine learning models for water level projection and groundwater–surface water interaction analysis
Collaborated with a regional hydrogeologist for the estimation of hydraulic conductivity for the aquifers using slug test method
Mentored and guided two MSc and one PhD students in fieldwork, data analysis, and groundwater vulnerability model development

Analysed field data logger measurements of temperature and groundwater levels along the Bulkley River
Developed a 3D numerical model to simulate groundwater and surface water interactions
Calibrated and validated of developed models through observed water level data
Investigated river–aquifer interactions to support hydrogeological assessment in the hyperopic zone
Collaborated with a regional hydrogeologist for the estimation of hydraulic conductivity of aquifers using seepage meter method

Assessment of water resources sustainability in transboundary river basins (Details of project)

YEAR: 2022-2023

LOCATION: Tigris-Euphrates Transboundary River (TETR) basin

CLIENT: Water Engineering and Management Group, Tarbiat Modares University; Iran's National Elites Foundation and Iran National Science Foundation

ACTIVITIES PERFORMED:

Developed an expanded conceptual model and applied the WEAP hydrological model for transboundary river basin analysis over a 41-year period (1979–2019)
Calibrated and validated the model using flow measurements from 22 gauging stations
Developed scenarios for unilateral upstream development projects and assessed their downstream impacts
Conducted sustainability and risk analysis of water supply and demand at country level; quantified a 59–60% decrease in Sustainability Index for downstream countries
Performed uncertainty analysis of sustainability indices using Monte Carlo-based methods
